I think most of us has gone through sex ed in school and if not I am happy you made it to this article today! We are going to get all up in your business and learn about the ins and outs of the AFAB anatomy. We will start with the interior and work our way out!
Reproductive system✨
AFAB is a label you’re given at birth based on medical factors, including your hormones, chromosomes, and genitals including the organs that makes up the reproductive system. The reproductive system includes the ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, vagina, accessory glands, and external genitalia.
The female reproductive system's main job is to produce the egg (ova) in an attempt to be fertilized. An egg is fertilized by sperm which normally happens in the fallopian tubes. The fertilized egg then travels down the fallopian tubes to implant into the wall of the uterus to begin the initial stage of pregnancy. If the fertilization and/or implantation does not take place the menstruation cycle starts to take place.
Let's start from the top! 👆🏾 Don't worry we are going to stick with the basics!
Ovaries are the small oval shaped glands located on the left and right side of the uterus that produces eggs and hormones (estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone). Eggs start releasing during puberty and stops when menopause starts.
Fallopian tubes are the narrow tubes that are attached to the uterus and is the tunnel the egg travels through to get to the uterus.
Uterus is the pear shaped organ about the size of a small fist. After conception it is where the fertilized egg implants to begin growing the fetus. *FUN FACT* When you are aroused the lower part of your uterus (cervix) lifts expanding your vagina.
Cervix is located between the uterus and vagina. It lets sperm in and menstrual blood out.
Vagina the canal that connects the cervix to the outside of the body, AKA birth canal.
G-spot is something we can't forget, it is located a few inches inside your vagina on the front wall and it swells when you aroused. It feels similar to a walnut shell it is rigidity.
Vulva includes the labia, clitoris, vaginal opening, urethra, and clitoris are the basic make-up but no two vulvas look the same.
Labia minora are the outer fold around the vaginal opening (some call them the little/inner lips).
Labia majora (outer lips) are the fleshy outer folds covered in pubic hair beginning at the clitoris and ending at the vagina opening.
Clitoris is actually internal and external the tip is what you see in the vulva and is covered by the clitoral hood. It extends inside your body back and down both sides if the vagina. There are thousands of nerve ending on the clitoris and it's only job is to provide pleasure.
Urethra opening is located below the clotoris and it is where your pee comes out.
Mons pubis is the mound above your vulva and cushions the public bone.
